AshantiGold Part Ways With Coach Zito and Two Assistants Days After Kotoko Draw

FC AshantiGold have terminated the contracts of head coach Abdul Karim Kabutey Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeeper trainer Robert Dabo following a consultative meeting by the club’s Interim Management Committee.

The decision, announced in an official statement dated Tuesday, October 27, 2026, takes immediate effect and brings an end to the trio’s time with the club’s technical team.

The development comes just days after AshantiGold played out a 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko last Sunday, although the club’s statement did not directly link the decision to the result.

According to the statement, the decision was reached after a meeting held on Monday, October 26, 2026, as the club’s interim management considered the future direction of the team.

The three officials affected are head coach and technical director Abdul Karim Kabutey Zito, assistant coach Ernest Okyere and goalkeeper trainer Robert Dabo.

“Following a consultative meeting by the Interim Management Committee on Monday October 26th 2026, a decision has been made to relieve the following members of the FC Ashantigold technical team, of their duties effective immediately,” the statement read.

The club also confirmed that a caretaker coach has been appointed to take charge of the team while management works towards appointing a substantive head coach and technical director.

However, the identity of the caretaker coach was not disclosed in the announcement.

The immediate priority for AshantiGold will be to ensure stability within the squad as the club prepares for its upcoming fixtures. The changes also leave management with the task of identifying a new technical leadership team capable of guiding the players and helping the club achieve its objectives for the season.

Zito’s departure is particularly significant given his dual role as head coach and technical director. His responsibilities extended beyond the touchline, making the appointment of a suitable replacement an important decision for the club’s leadership.

Despite the decision to end the contracts, AshantiGold expressed appreciation to the departing officials for their contributions and service to the club.

“Management wishes to express our deepest gratitude to the affected officials for their contribution and service to the team this far, and wishes them the best in their subsequent endeavours,” the statement added.

The announcement was signed by the club’s Chief Executive Officer, Edward-Kwasi Akuoko, on behalf of FC AshantiGold.

Attention will now turn to the appointment of a permanent technical director and head coach, as well as the caretaker coach’s immediate responsibilities.

For AshantiGold, the coming weeks will be crucial as the club seeks to maintain its competitive focus following the changes to its technical setup.

The 1-1 draw against Asante Kotoko was the team’s most recent fixture before the announcement, but management has yet to publicly provide further details about the reasons behind the decision to terminate the contracts of the three officials.
