Media personality Sometymer Otuo Acheampong has highlighted some key details emerging from Asante Kotoko’s 91st birthday celebration following a meeting between the club’s board and members of the media.
Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, who attended the celebration, provided insight into some of the issues discussed during the event, including the club’s long-term development plans and efforts to strengthen its structures.
According to Acheampong, one of the notable developments is the club’s acquisition of a female team, which forms part of what appears to be a broader strategy to expand the Asante Kotoko brand and football operations.
He also revealed that the club has put together a 10-year development plan, signalling an intention to build the club around a long-term vision rather than focusing only on short-term results.
Another issue highlighted by Acheampong concerned the relationship between the club’s board and the media.
He explained that the Board Chairman indicated that he would not engage in criticism without evidence and encouraged the media to provide information that could help the club improve.
The position, as relayed by Sometymer Otuo Acheampong, is that criticism should be constructive and supported by evidence, with the media playing a role in helping Asante Kotoko identify areas that require attention.
However, Sometymer Otuo Acheampong noted that some of the details surrounding the club’s plans are still awaiting further clarification.
The club is reportedly waiting for owner Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to return from the United States before presenting the broader plans to him.
The 91st birthday celebration therefore provided an opportunity for the club to engage with the media while also offering some insight into its ambitions for the future.
With a 10-year development plan reportedly in place and the addition of a female team among the developments mentioned, attention will now turn to how the plans are presented and implemented.
Sometymer Otuo Acheampong’s comments provide an early glimpse into the direction Asante Kotoko intends to take as the club looks beyond its immediate sporting objectives and focuses on its longer-term development.
