Ghana captain André Ayew has responded to calls from sections of the public for him to become the next President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), following his appearance at the Baba Yara Stadium during the Ghana Premier League clash between Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars.
Ayew was at the Baba Yara Stadium on Sunday alongside fellow Ghana international Mubarak Wakaso to watch the highly anticipated Ghana Premier League fixture between Asante Kotoko and Aduana Stars.
Speaking exclusively to BornAgain Sports at the stadium, the experienced Ghanaian forward explained that his presence was motivated by his desire to support Ghanaian football and contribute to the development of the sport in the country.
“I have been watching the Division One League, but it is my first time today in the 2026/27 season to watch the Ghana Premier League and this important fixture between Kotoko and Aduana Stars,” Ayew said.
The former Olympique de Marseille, Swansea City and West Ham United player also made it clear that his support is not limited to one particular club.
“I don’t support Kotoko, but I support every Ghanaian club,” he added.
According to Ayew, his broader objective is to see Ghanaian football regain its strength and enable local clubs to compete effectively on the African continent.
“I am here to make Ghana football rise and make our clubs rise again to compete in African competitions,” he stated.
His comments underline his interest in the development of Ghana football beyond his individual playing career, particularly at a time when discussions about the future direction of the sport continue to attract attention.
During the interview, BornAgain Sports also asked Ayew about calls from Ghanaians who want to see him become President of the Ghana Football Association in the future.
Responding to the question, Ayew remained cautious and refused to make any commitment regarding a potential future bid for the GFA presidency.
“The voice of the people and the voice of God, to me, I’m just focusing on my team and preparing myself on the pitch and off the pitch. After that, whatever God has made for me, I will take,” Ayew responded.
The statement suggests that Ayew’s immediate priority remains his football career and his responsibilities on and off the pitch, rather than making any announcement about a future administrative or political role within Ghana football.
His appearance at Baba Yara Stadium also provided an opportunity for the veteran international to observe the domestic game first-hand and interact with the football community.
Ayew’s comments are likely to generate further discussion among Ghanaian football fans, particularly those who have previously raised the possibility of seeing prominent former players take up leadership roles in the country’s football administration.
For now, Ayew has made it clear that he is concentrating on his football career and preparing himself both on and off the pitch, while leaving his future in the hands of God.
