Asante Kotoko Western Regional Circle Chairman, Mr Emmanuel Kumi, popularly known as Daakyehene, has expressed his disappointment following the club’s 1-1 draw against FC Samartex in the Ghana Premier League.
Kumi said he was unhappy with the result, particularly because of the strong performance he believes the Asante Kotoko players produced during the match.
“I’m not happy about the result at all, considering the great performance my players showed,” Daakyehene said. “Although FC Samartex gave us a tough game, I believe we could have taken all three points.”
Asante Kotoko took the lead but were unable to hold on to their advantage, with FC Samartex finding an equaliser. According to Kumi, a lapse in concentration contributed to the goal that denied the Porcupine Warriors victory.
“If you look at the two away matches we have played so far against Debibi United and Samartex, I can say the referee who officiated the Debibi United game was much better than the referee who handled the Samartex match,” he added.
Kumi also questioned the decision to award a penalty during the game, insisting that, in his view, the incident did not warrant a spot-kick.
“The penalty the referee awarded was not a penalty at all,” he said.
Despite his frustration with the result and officiating, the Western Regional Circle Chairman acknowledged the quality of opposition Kotoko have faced in their opening matches.
He pointed out that the three clubs from the Western Region – FC Samartex, Medeama SC and Basake Holy Stars represent a difficult challenge, with Medeama and FC Samartex having previously won the Ghana Premier League.
With Kotoko preparing for their next league fixture against Aduana Stars at the Baba Yara Stadium in GPL Week 4, Kumi has urged supporters to remain patient and continue backing head coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team.
“I will call on the supporters to trust Coach Eric Tinkler and his technical team and come in numbers on Sunday to support the team at Baba Yara Stadium against Aduana Stars,” he said.
The draw against Samartex leaves Kotoko looking ahead to their home fixture, where strong support from the Porcupine Warriors faithful will be important as the team seeks to return to winning ways.
