Kelvin Osei Assibey: Hearts of Oak’s Confidence Is Very High Ahead of GoldStars Clash

Hearts of Oak defender Kelvin Osei Assibey says the team’s confidence is very high after their impressive start to the new Ghana Premier League season.

The Phobians began their campaign in excellent fashion, recording a commanding 4-0 victory over Berekum Chelsea in their opening league match.

According to Assibey, such a convincing result against a strong opponent has given the players an additional boost ahead of their subsequent matches.

“When you win your first league game 4-0 against a team like Berekum Chelsea, it boosts your confidence going into the other subsequent games. Our confidence level so far is very high,” Assibey said.

Hearts of Oak will face Bibiani GoldStars in their second league game, with Assibey expecting a difficult encounter against a side that has established itself as a competitive force in the Ghana Premier League.

The defender highlighted GoldStars’ strong home record at Duns Park, as one of the factors that could make the match challenging.

“In our second game, Bibiani GoldStars have been strong in the Ghana Premier League since the day they were promoted, and they are much stronger at their venue, Duns Park. Playing them will be a very difficult game, but we, the players, will give our all and do our best,” he added.

GoldStars have also strengthened their squad with experienced players ahead of the new campaign, including Kwame Poku, who previously played for Asante Kotoko.

The Bibiani-based side, however, suffered a 1-0 defeat in their opening league match against Bechem United at the Nana Fosu Gyeabour Stadium. Assibey believes that result could motivate GoldStars to respond strongly against Hearts of Oak.

“But we have also prepared very well. We know what is ahead of us, and we are ready for the challenge.”

Assibey has also called on Hearts of Oak supporters to turn up in their numbers and provide strong backing for the team.

“We need the fans to come in their numbers and support us. Their support is very important, and we will give our all on the pitch to get the result we want,” the defender said.

The match is expected to provide an early test of Hearts of Oak’s title ambitions, following their emphatic opening-day victory.
