Joshua vs Fury: Matty Harris Shares His Heavyweight Prediction

British heavyweight Matty Harris has offered his thoughts on the heavyweight boxing scene involving Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury, having shared the ring in sparring with some of the division’s leading names.

Harris has previously sparred with Anthony Joshua and Francis Ngannou, giving him direct experience of Joshua’s abilities and Ngannou’s physical strength. Ahead of Joshua’s 2024 fight with Ngannou, Harris was asked about the matchup and backed Joshua to deal with the former UFC heavyweight champion.

Harris said his experience of sparring Ngannou had not convinced him that the former UFC champion possessed the boxing ability to trouble Joshua. He also suggested that Joshua would be able to stop Ngannou.

The heavyweight has also previously shared his assessment of Joshua when the former two-time world champion prepared to face Daniel Dubois. Harris, who had sparred both Joshua and Dubois, predicted that Joshua would win by knockout, pointing to what he viewed as weaknesses in Dubois’ defence.

Harris’ comments have attracted attention because of his own experience inside the heavyweight division. The 6ft 8in fighter is trained by Peter Fury and has been rebuilding his career under the experienced heavyweight coach.

Peter Fury is the uncle and former trainer of Tyson Fury, and Harris has spoken highly of his trainer’s understanding of heavyweight boxing. Harris has described Fury as a specialist who understands the unique demands of the heavyweight division.

With Joshua and Tyson Fury among the biggest names in the heavyweight division, Harris’ observations provide an interesting perspective from a fighter who has trained alongside elite heavyweights.

However, it is important to distinguish between Harris’ previous predictions and any claim that he has made a fresh, specific prediction for a Joshua-Fury fight. The currently available reports confirm his comments about Joshua’s bouts with Ngannou and Dubois, but do not provide a verified new Joshua-Tyson Fury prediction.

Harris continues to pursue his own ambitions in the heavyweight division. After suffering the first defeat of his professional career, he rebuilt under Peter Fury and has returned to winning ways, continuing his development as a heavyweight contender.
