Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League Matchday 5 fixture against Karela United has been rescheduled to Thursday, October 1, 2026, following arrangements surrounding the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) National Delegates Elections at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
The highly anticipated encounter will now be played at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium at 3:00pm, with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) confirming the new date and time in its Matchday 5 broadcast schedule.
The change has been made to accommodate the NPP’s National Officers Election, which is scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The party’s National Officers Elections Committee (NOEC) has confirmed that preparations are ongoing for the conference, with the event expected to begin at 9:00am.
With the political event set to take place at the same venue over the weekend, the football authorities have moved Kotoko’s fixture forward to Thursday to ensure that both events can take place without a clash.

The rescheduled match will be an important one for Asante Kotoko as the Porcupine Warriors continue their campaign in the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. The Kumasi giants will be hoping to secure maximum points in front of their home supporters when they welcome Karela United.
The fixture is also expected to attract significant attention from Kotoko supporters, particularly because the club is playing at Baba Yara Stadium during a period when the venue will subsequently be occupied for the NPP conference.
According to the GFA’s official Matchday 5 television schedule, Asante Kotoko versus Karela United is one of two selected matches for Thursday, October 1, with kick-off set for 3:00pm. The other selected fixture is Dreams FC’s home meeting with Hearts of Oak on Sunday, October 4, at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The NPP’s conference will see delegates gather in Kumasi for the election of the party’s national officers. The Baba Yara Sports Stadium has been confirmed as the venue for the October 3 exercise.
As a result, Kotoko fans will now have to adjust their plans for the Matchday 5 encounter, which was originally expected to be played later in the matchweek.
