Debibi United president Alexander Ababio has described the club’s 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko as a valuable experience, saying facing the Ghanaian giants felt like “playing the country.”

The two teams shared the spoils after an entertaining encounter, with Ababio admitting that his side showed too much respect to their opponents during the first half before making changes after the break.
“We gave Kotoko too much respect in the first half, so we changed our game in the second half. Playing Kotoko is like playing the country.
The Debibi United president also revealed that the club strengthened its squad following their qualification to the Ghana Premier League, with the management bringing in experienced players to help the team compete effectively at the highest level.
Among the experienced additions are Kwadwo Obeng, formerly of Hearts of Oak, and Maxwell Agyemang, who previously played for Asante Kotoko. Alexander Ababio believes their experience will be important as Debibi United prepare for the challenges of top-flight football.
Alexander Ababio also addressed the club’s venue situation after the Club Licensing Board determined that their home venue did not meet the required standards for Ghana Premier League matches.
According to the club president, the decision has not discouraged the team, and management is committed to addressing the concerns raised by the licensing authorities.
“We will meet the demands as soon as possible,” Ababio assured.
Despite the venue setback, Ababio insists Debibi United have clear ambitions for their Premier League campaign. The club’s immediate target is to establish themselves in the top flight and remain in the division for the 2027-2028 season.
“Our target is to maintain our place in the Ghana Premier League and stay in the division for the 2027-2028 season,” he said.
The club president also praised Debibi United’s supporters for their unwavering backing. “Our supporters support us in everything we do and everywhere we go.
Ababio added, The 2-2 draw against Asante Kotoko will give Debibi United further confidence as they continue preparations for their first campaign among Ghana’s top-flight clubs.
